Tenswall Hand-Held Portable Garment Steamer Review

The Tenswall Hand-Held Portable Garment Steamer is a unit that I’ve seen in a couple of garment steamer reviews and I was anxious to try it out. However, when I first received it, I do have to say that I wasn’t really impressed with the way it looked. To me, it sort of looked like a watering can but as the saying goes, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Which is why I decided to put it to the test.

I took it out of the box it came in and immediately started setting it up. The first thing that I noticed was that this steamer was pretty lightweight. It only weighed about 1.2 pounds and it kind of felt good in my hand. While I wasn’t impressed with the way it looked, I do have to say that it really is pretty nice to hold.

The next thing that caught my attention was the size of its water reservoir. It only held about 140 milliliters of water, which is approximately 4.7 ounces. That’s not the biggest reservoir I’ve seen on a garment steamer but it certainly isn’t the smallest. However, the real test is how long it takes to heat up and how long it provides steam. And this is where I encountered my first problem.

It took about 2-minutes for it to heat up. Which wouldn’t have been a problem by itself, but when you couple that fact with its 7-minute operating time, then you can quickly see that with this unit you’ll be spending a lot of time waiting for it to heat up so you can use it. Not exactly my idea of a good time.

Normally, the long heat up time and the shorter use time would have put this steamer at the bottom of my list, but I do have to say that it did do a good job while I was using it. Sure, it’s not the most powerful unit in the world but it does get the job done and did a variety of different fabrics from silk and cotton to linen and wool.

Unfortunately, when I tried to change the angle of the steamer while I was steaming, I did notice the next problem. While this steamer worked great while being held straight, it did have a tendency to “spit” if I changed the angle too much. Which is a shame because I was really hoping for more out of this unit.

Overall, I still think it’s a good garment steamer. It’s definitely not the best garment steamer on the market today but it’s definitely not the worst. I still think it’s a decent middle-of-the-pack sort of garment steamer.
