The Swiffer Wet Jet Hardwood and Floor Spray Mop Cleaner Starter Kit is a starting kit that I received that came with a Swiffer mop, some mopping pad refills, cleaning solution and 4 AA batteries. Yes, you read that correctly, this unit uses batteries. Now let’s see how well it cleans.
Putting this Swiffer together was fairly easy. You just have to put together the poles, insert the batteries, put on the pad and insert the cleaning solution. One of the first things I noticed about this particular model was that the way the pads fit on it was changed from previous models. With other models, you have to snap the ends of the pad into the holes. With this one, however, it just fits on the mop head. It’s a better design and that’s for sure.
As far as cleaning goes, this mop does a decent job – as long as the mess isn’t too big. If you’re just using it for light day-to-day cleaning, then this mop does a stellar job. It picks up dust and leaves the floor looking all shiny. As far as it shooting out cleaning spray, it felt more like a gimmick to me than a practical application. And unfortunately, this unit is just not durable enough to handle any real big messes and that’s just a shame. I was hoping for more out of it.
I also wasn’t fond of having to keep batteries in my mop. Since you’re not supposed to leave batteries in a device long term, this means that I have to remove and reinsert the batteries every time I use it. I don’t like that idea at all.
All in all, it’s a reasonably priced mop and does a decent job with light cleaning. If it’s used for light day-to-day cleaning, I think it would be a decent unit. I just wouldn’t trust it for anything heavier.
