The RIDGID 12-Gallon Wet/Dry Vac (VAC1200) is obviously a wet/dry vacuum that’s meant for industrial use – or at least, heavy-duty use. While I knew that it was more expensive than comparable models, I had also heard great things about its power and capacity, so I decided to test it out and see what it could accomplish around my home. Here is what I discovered.
This vac weighed about 22-pounds and was about 18.4×23.5-inches. A little bulky for my smaller frame, but I decided to go ahead and test it out anyway. I noticed that not only did it have a 5-horsepower motor but it also had a 12-gallon tank. I thought that not having to empty it out as much would balance out its bulk but it didn’t quite work out that way.
Every time I used this vac I seemed to have problems with its hose. I would have problems with it popping out at inconvenient times. I soon realized that I hadn’t put the hose in the way it was supposed to, so I fixed it and didn’t have problems with it popping out anymore. However, when I did eventually have to remove the hose to clean it out, I had a bit of difficulty not only removing it but also putting it back on. It was a bit of a frustrating experience for me.
Although I had my difficulties with this product, there were also some things that I liked. For instance, I liked the 20-foot power cord and the length of the 8-foot hose. I also liked the fact that the top popped off and became an actual leaf blower. And a pretty powerful one at that.
All things considered, I don’t think that this is a bad vacuum. In fact, I do think that it does a pretty good job. Sure, I had some issues with the hose attachment that I still think was more of a design flaw than user error on my part, but overall I think it was a good heavy-duty vac. With that being said, however, I don’t think that the price for this unit is justified. There are other wet/dry vacuums that have close to the same capabilities as this one and are not priced as high. If it was a little cheaper, it would be a whole lot higher on my list – believe me.
