BISSELL Symphony 1543A All-in-One Pet Vacuum & Steam Mop

I have several pets in my home, so I was pretty excited to try out the BISSELL Symphony 1543A All-in-One Pet Vacuum & Steam Mop. If you’re not familiar with this particular BISSELL steam cleaner, then allow me to tell you a little bit about it before I review it. Basically, this unit is not only a steam mop but it is also a vacuum, so you can do two jobs at the same time with one unit and that’s always a good thing.

The first thing I noticed about this steam mop after I had assembled it, was that it didn’t have an adjustable handle like I would’ve have liked. However, I don’t think that’s too big of a deal because it does have a few features that I did like. For example, it had a water tank that I could easily empty with one hand. It also had pretty good suction when I was using it as a vacuum, so I guess I can forgive BISSELL about the handle.

The next thing that I noticed about this unit was that I could use it to vacuum, use both the vacuum and the steam mop feature at the same time or I could just use it as a steam mop. It all was dependent on what I needed to use this machine for. Which is pretty handy in a steam mop/vacuum that’s marketed towards pets owners.

As far as cleaning up my pet messes, I found out that this unit did an exceptional job. It not only picked up the hair from my St. Bernard but also some muddy track prints that he had left on my linoleum floors. That made me feel like this steam mop could handle just about anything, so I decided to try it out on some carpets that had been heavily trafficked by several different dogs.

However, this is when I ran into my first real problem. While this unit did great on some floors, it struggled on carpets that had a whole lot of hair on them. Hair got caught up in the bristles and I had to spend quite a bit of time removing the hair. This unit is great for small or average pet messes, but for larger ones, it just might not be up to the task.

I still think that this unit is great for pet owners but I do think they have to keep realistic expectations. It’s not a miracle worker and won’t effortlessly move through any mess. However, it is capable of helping clean up the average pet mess – something not a lot of multi-purpose machines can do.
