BISSELL Power Fresh 1940 Steam Mop

It goes without saying that the BISSELL Power Fresh 1940 Steam Mop is one of the more popular steam mops on the market today. As a matter of fact, when I was doing research to find out which steam mops I should test out, I quickly found out that it’s not only one of the most popular BISSELL steam cleaner units on the market, but is one of the most popular of all of them. Which stoked my curiosity, of course. I really wanted to know what was so great about them, so I got one and gave it a test drive.

One of the first things I realized about it was that it was easy to assemble. Within just a few minutes I had it all put together and was ready to use it. And the only tool it required was a screw driver. After I put it all together, and read the manual, I decided to test it out on a number of different floors all over my home.

The next thing I noticed about it was that it had a pretty big mop head. Its head was about 13-inches wide – which cut a great cleaning swath across my floor. At first, however, I was kind of worried that because of its size it would be difficult to fit it into hard to reach places, like between my toilet and tub, for instance, but it would appear that I was worrying for no reason. I had no problem pushing it around or using it. It has a pretty low profile, too. That made it easy to get under my cabinets. Now I’m beginning to see why so many people like it.

It did a great job on some of my tile floors and even lightened up some of the grout between my tiles – thanks to the flip down scrub brush. Sure, it didn’t clean up the grout as well as a canister steamer would’ve done but it did a pretty good job for a steam mop.

Another thing I liked about this unit was that it had 3 presets that could be used to clean the floor. It had a “low” “medium” and “high” setting. Just be careful when you’re using the highest setting because the steam is really, really hot. Hot enough to burn you pretty badly, if you’re not careful.

Okay, since I’ve covered the bad about this unit, I think it’s now time for me to tell you what I didn’t like about it. I didn’t like that it provided always-on steam. Which means that while it was running, it produced steam. This led me to having to unplug and then plug it back in several different times while I was cleaning to turn off the steam. Not very convenient.

All things considered, I see why the BISSELL 1940 is so popular. It’s simply one of the best steam mops out there. It’s fairly priced, powerful and does the job right. It’s a steam mop that’s definitely worth a look.
